I have been getting service parts from Jess recently. She is awesome. I’m sure you knew that already but I just wanted to acknowledge it. I wish all our transmissions were Twin Disc. Great job thanks” Graham Campbell, Sales Manager. Leco Marine
Matt Cherry, Project Lead and Senior Systems Engineer – Engineered Marine Systems
I want to express my gratitude for your contribution to the overall hybrid proposal. Your expertise was instrumental in our propulsions systems study. While it is disappointing that the project will not move forward with the hybrid system, I look forward to future opportunities to collaborate. Having reached out to a number of suppliers, you were (by far) the most personable and knowledgeable, so I will know who exactly to come to on future projects!”-Matt Cherry, Project Lead and Senior Systems Engineer – Engineered Marine Systems

Thank you for getting our gearbox rebuilt and the vessel running again after the frustration of waiting for the spares these past few weeks.
Michael was excellent. His expertise and knowledge of the job were outstanding even when he hadn’t worked on a Yanmar gearbox before, and his assistance explaining what had been done to Lloyds surveyor was second to none. – Neil Brown, Technical Super Indentent. Pentland Ferries
Robert Molhoek, Operations Director – Loenen Repairs B.V
We would like to express our satisfaction with the work MIT engineer James Hill carried out on the check values in the OD box job on board the MV Syn Zania
We and the Italian customer are very happy with his professional attitude, work ethic & experience shown in Tuzla.
We are looking forward to using MIT engineers for future projects. – Robert Molhoek – Operations Director, Loenen Repairs B.V
Tim Broughton – Whitakers Tankers
I was so impressed by the MIT team’s professionalism, communication and flexibility when they carried out a partial overhaul on our vessel. The initial job spec expanded somewhat due to several factors; however, this did not faze the guys. They just got stuck in and got on with the job. They kept me fully informed and appraised of everything they were doing and sought approval before replacing or repairing parts that were out of the initial job spec. The team were excellent, and I would without question use MIT again. – Tim Broughton- Marine Technical Superindentant, Whitakers Tankers
Anthony Lane, Skipper – Camden Mist
I recently brought a Twin Disc gearbox into the MIT Queenborough workshop for repair after meeting the team at Irish Skipper, and I was blown away by the level of service they provided me.
After travelling over from Ireland, the team worked quickly to identify my problem with the gearbox and promptly found a solution. They bent over backwards to get the repair down before I had to leave to catch my ferry, coming in early to the workshop to complete the job.
I dealt with Paul Massey and Dan DeBruin, and I was very impressed by their product knowledge and willingness to impart this, so I understood what the issue was and what to look out for in the future.
The whole experience was brilliant from end to end, and I would not hesitate to recommend MIT to anyone who needs a gearbox repair in the future.
Annabelle Fox, Manor Mix Concrete
When our Renault volumetric lorry suffered a complete failure of the PTO drive system, we were very grateful to receive a direct referral to MIT from our trusted supplier Norfolk Trucks.
We made initial enquiries on a Friday, and by the following Monday afternoon, Paul Walton had viewed our lorry in person to assess the existing PTO set-up and offer us the best and most cost-effective conversion solution; a new PTO directly off the engine.
The vehicle was collected a few days later and taken to MIT’s workshop for the PTO upgrade to begin. The 12-day turnaround overran slightly, but that was to allow for some unexpected adjustments. We were happy to wait to receive a perfectly calibrated PTO, and Paul kept us informed at every stage of the process.
The new PTO runs like a dream, direct off the engine and demonstrates the attention, precision and quality of workmanship these talented engineers undertake. We would have no hesitation in recommending the fantastic team at MIT; they were an absolute pleasure to deal with.’
Thomas De Carteret Fire Service Manager, Guernsey Ports, States of Guernsey
We have been working with Michael and the rest of the MIT Team for over seven years now, entrusting them to fulfil our service and repair needs on our fleet of two SIDES S3X and Carmichael Cobra ARFF vehicles. With safety at the heart of our business, we needed a supplier to keep our vehicles operational and on our runways. MIT’s impeccable response times and 24/7 support mean we suffer minimal downtime, and any repairs are carried out with genuine OEM parts and with no delay. We are delighted with the services MIT have supplied to us over the years, ranging from annual servicing and maintenance extending into total water pump replacements and vehicle livery redesigns.
Jack Weller, Operations Manager – Commercial Rib Charters
We have been very impressed with MIT’s quality of work with these gearbox overhauls and believe we have extended their working lives for many years with this investment. MIT’s professionalism and expertise is unrivalled in the UK and we look forward to working with them again.
David Coleman, Technical Manager – Briggs Marine Contractors Ltd
MIT is not only the provider of OEM parts but is integral in the provision and repair of Twin Disc Gearboxes which are fitted to Royal Charter and other boats supported by the maintenance team at the Marine Base in Liverpool. Lead times for spares and repair are known to be up to 16 weeks, with lead times for gearboxes at 20-22 weeks. To turn around an order and delivery of a gearbox within 10 days is tantamount to going the extra mile. Based on experience and knowledge of MG and MGX gearboxes MIT remain the primary service provider. MIT provide value for money when supporting Briggs Marine Contractors with the maintenance and repairs of the gearboxes and the associated control systems.
Tony Birr, Goodchild Marine Services
Goodchild Marine passed on their sincere thanks to Dave Little personally for all his hard work and effort in ensuring the ABP contract ran smoothly. They said moving the transmission supply from an engine OEM to direct supply from MIT had been highly beneficial to them and was largely down to Daves efforts.
William Ellis, Central Demolition Ltd
We are delighted with the retrofit solution as we know the Transfluid technology well from clutches fitted to other machinery. We appreciate the simplicity of the HFO314KV clutch design and how it handles heavy-duty applications with ease. – William Ellis, Central Demolition Ltd
Steve Pierce. General Manager. Goodchild Marine Services
MIT for many years has been suppliers to both Goodchild Marine Services Limited and the Port of London Authority. Given MIT’s business relationship with Transfluid, their geographical position to where the vessel is operating, MIT was a natural choice for the challenge of building a first in class hybrid pilot boat such as ‘Leader’. Steve Pierce. General Manager. Goodchild Marine Services
Stefan Glinski, The Fresh & freeze Co Ltd
A huge thank you to all your team, but particularly to Paul firstly by such prompt reply and action and to Liam who drove to Cornwall and fitted the new PTO clutch in 4 hours. We are back at sea, fully operational within 30 hours of contacting you. Excellent. Just a mention to Dave Little, big thanks to all the assistance over the past 15 years of purchasing gearboxes and service. Look after Liam, excellent engineer.
Nick Creed, Projects and Commercial Manager, Windboats Marine.
Being a repeat of a customer’s previous Hardy 42, it was thought it could prove a tricky project. However, from initial spec all the way through to commissioning and handover, engineering was smooth and without trouble.
This being the first full package supplied to Hardy/Windboats, we are mighty impressed. The joystick is a dream to use, and the express positioning is something else. Very impressive, indeed. Quick frankly, anyone that wants this kind of setup needs to look no further.
Brian Hudson
Yesterday I spoke to Paul, your service manager who kindly explained why my gear shift lever was stuck, After removing said lever shaft and cleaning some corrosion, on replacement all is now working as it should, I thank him for his time, and understanding my frustrating problem. I can now go forward and astern with confidence. Thank you again, Brian Hudson.
Service Customer
I was recently in the position where my boat was unserviceable due to a faulty bow thruster. I tracked down your company as the parent company of the source of the part I required. I was referred to Ms Gill Bainbridge to deal with my enquiry.
Ms Bainbridge located and sent me a manual for the bow thruster. Over the phone I guided her to the part I required with the assistance of the manual. She located the part number and price and checked it with an engineer. She placed a priority order to the warehouse in Italy. And finally on receipt of the part, ensured it was despatched, even although it was last thing on a Friday afternoon.
My engineer received the part and the boat was made serviceable.
Can I say that this represents the highest level of customer service that I have experienced for some time. As a businessman, I cannot stress enough how positively this quality of service reflects on your company. My thanks for Ms Bainbridge’s support in my time of need.
Lee Rayment Director, and engineer. Solent and Wightline Cruises
Our engines were approaching 22,000 hours and we again decided to renew the engines. They are more reliable, and it works out more cost effective than overhauls. Reliability is essential in our business. A breakdown in season is not an option.
We have used Scania Engines and Twin Disc Gearboxes in our larger vessels for over 35 years. It was a logical replacement to our vessel Solent Cat. Originally fitted with Scania DI14’s and Twin Disc MG5114’s in the year 2000, we stuck with the same reliable power train. However, this upgrade, we decided to opt for the electronic controls for the Gearbox as well as the engine.
The last Scania’s were electronic, so we chose the MGX Twin Disc to complement the system, giving us Twin Disc EC300 electronic controls. This preserves the drive train thoroughly and protects as well as prolongs the whole system.
Our installation was completed by our own staff and management. By the day of sea trials, there was minimal work to be done, followed by a very successful running trial proving an excellent installation with impressive results. We took a little extra time and managed to achieve alignment as close as four thou across the whole coupling gave a very smooth running engine.
The gearbox is connected to the shaft via an R&D Coupling to increase the smoothness of the vessel and its drive.
We would wholeheartedly recommend all parts that we have used this installation that include Scania, Twin Disc and R&D.
David McFadyen, Engineer Manager floating Plant. Forth Ports
When ordering our new vessel, we specified the Twin Disc Quickshift MGX-5136SC as this would keep continuity amongst our fleet and also the crews were familiar with operation of this gearbox, the smooth and direct drive through the main engine ease of controls, the main factor is the technical support, with back up service that M.I.T provide to our fleet.
James Gray, Shoreham Port Authority, Assistant Harbour Master
The heavy demands placed on the marine gears and propulsion systems by constantly changing from ahead to astern when bed levelling, have been met with 100% reliability from the Twin Disk MG 514 units. It was an obvious choice to choose Twin Disc for our new vessel, the high level of reliability makes them ideally suited for the type of work to be undertaken.
Danny Normandale, Skipper, SH90 Ltd
As a family, we have used MIT for two generations now. We have purchased at least 4/5 gearboxes from MIT for our various boats. We have always found them to be very informative, and helpful. I wouldn’t consider using anyone else for gearboxes.
Ian Lord, General Manager, Estuary Services Ltd
ESL provides the critical service of pilot boarding and landing to the Ports of London and Medway. In order to help it meet the needs of the business, Twindisc gearboxes were selected for our latest pilot boats, Estuary Elan and Elite. Over the past 30 years, we have forged a strong working relationship with MIT. The excellent customer support and response times MIT provides, coupled with its years of experience and expertise in the industry, has been essential in maintaining ESL’s operation.
Jason Lengden, Skipper, The Margaret Beryl
MIT is one of the very few companies that understand the need to get a commercial boat back out to sea ASAP! When we have a mechanical breakdown MIT are our first phone call…. and then the lifeboat!
Angus Campbell, Kilda Cruises
We have four Twin Disc units on our charter boats operating day trips to St Kilda 50 miles West of the Outer Hebrides, and we have never had a bit of trouble from them.
We have covered well over 100.000 miles with one vessel now and have never had a spanner near them.
