We are delighted to share that MIT is now an accredited Living Wage Employer. The Living Wage Foundation created the ‘real living wage’ rate based on the current cost of living, which helps employees get paid a fair wage that is enough to live on.
The new wage rate means that workers will earn at least £1,092 per year more than if they were on the government’s national living rates for 2024.
MIT has become one of the 14,000 employers across the UK who have committed to paying their staff the real living wage rate, demonstrating our commitment to being a responsible employer.
We recognise that our staff are the most integral part of the business and have played a huge part in our successes over the last 50 years.
As a living wage employer, we have committed to:
- Pay the real UK or London Living Wage (as appropriate) to all of our directly employed staff over 18.
- Ensure all our third-party contracted and sub-contracted regular staff are paid the real UK or London Living Wage (as appropriate).
- Increase the wages of our employees and contracted staff to the Living Wage, if appropriate, within six months of any rise in the calculated Living Wage rates.
We caught up with our finance director, Peter Fenton, to get his thoughts:
“In this time of financial hardship, employers should do everything they reasonably can to assist their employees to cope with their financial difficulties. One of the areas MIT has focused on is our lower-paid employees. With our recent round of pay reviews, we have ensured that all employees are now paid above the Living Wage. We will maintain this going forward and have been recognised as a Living Wage employer by the Living Wage Foundation, something we are very proud of.”We take immense pride in this accreditation and the commitment to our staff.
