Estuary Services have expressed their confidence in the reliability and durability of TwinDisc marine transmissions. Via MIT, Estuary Services were successfully delivered two TwinDisc Quickshift MGX gearboxes complete with EC300 Electronic Controls – installed on two of their pilot boats operating out of Ramsgate and Sheerness.
Estuary Services Ltd operate pilot vessels for the Thames and Medway regions, operating their vessels to full potential, reliability of the driveline system is critical. TwinDisc transmissions and Electronic Controls are their first choice for equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
Supplied via Scania and built by Goodchild Marine, the Estuary Elan and Estuary Elite first entered the fleet in 2012 and 2013 respectively, and over the past the five years have proved their operational excellence. The 17.6m long vessels are also fitted with Scania Di 16 42M engines with a maximum power of 2 x 600hp and reaching a top speed of 28 knots.
Since the introduction of the Elan and Elite into their fleet, Estuary Services have been so impressed with the vessels that they plan to add to their fleet in 2018, which will also feature TwinDisc transmissions.
The TwinDisc MGX gearbox supplied was the MGX5135A, which has since been superseded by the MGX5136A and features a vertical offset aluminium housing, a 10 degree down angle on outputs shaft and electric GP-valve with manual override. Quickshift gearboxes are the world’s smoothest, fastest shifting—plus amazing slow speed control. Quick Shift uses patented internal clutch actuation to deliver cushioned torque and optimum power in milliseconds, whether you nudge the throttle or go full out. The EC300 propulsion control provides single-lever control of engine RPM and transmission engagement, with engine synchronization and trolling modes.
For nearly a century, TwinDisc have been making boats perform better and more reliably. From system-design consultation to application development to in-service support, Twin Disc provides fully integrated propulsion solutions that will optimize your craft’s performance, reliability and safety over the years.
Estuary Services said, “ESL provides the critical service of pilot boarding and landing to the Ports of London and Medway. In order to help it meet the needs of the business, Twindisc gearboxes were selected for our latest pilot boats, Estuary Elan and Elite. Over the past 30 years, we have forged a strong working relationship with MIT. The excellent customer support and response times MIT provides, coupled with its years of experience and expertise in the industry has been essential in maintaining ESL’s operation.
