Manufacturer: Renault Truck
Type of Machine: Mobile Volumetric Concrete Mixer Truck
Type of Application: Mobile onsite cement mixing
Engine: Renault
Type of project: ZF Power Divider PTO (ZF NMV2000) to Rear Engine Mounted Live PTO Conversion
Date of commissioning: June 2022
Our client’s Renault Concrete Mixer Truck was experiencing problems with the original equipment ZF transmission as the PTO not engaging correctly. This problem was causing issues with providing power to the hydraulic pump, which runs the cement mixer and conveyor systems, causing the vehicle to be out of service.
The truck was brought into our workshop in Queenborough, where our experienced engineers began investigative work. Upon removal of the vehicle’s main transmission assembly, they discovered that the ZF Power Divider’s internal lubrication pump had sheered its PTO drive plate and shaft. This, in turn, had stopped the pump from providing lubrication to the Power Divider and PTO, which caused pump, bearing and main housing damage.
When sourcing replacement ZF parts for the Power Divider, we found that the main housing and other components are no longer manufactured and are now obsolete.
Our specialist Off Highway technicians then had to find a solution and installed a genuine Renault Rear Engine Mounted Live PTO unit and removed the old ZF Power Divider & PTO. They then realigned the existing hydraulic pump so that it was in line with the PTO.
Components that were replaced during the conversion are as follows:
• Modify wiring harness to incorporate Renault PTO assembly.
• Manufacture a new PTO drive shaft.
• Manufacture a new transmission-axle drive shaft.
• Install new engine flywheel, clutch, spigot bearing and harness.
• Manufacture a new Hydraulic Pump mounting plate.
• Manufacture new Catwalk / PTO drive shaft cover plate.
• Extend all transmission lines.
• Reinstall transmission assembly and commission system.
When our Renault volumetric lorry suffered a complete failure of the PTO drive system, we were very grateful to receive a direct referral to MIT from our trusted supplier Norfolk Trucks.
We made initial enquiries on a Friday, and by the following Monday afternoon, Paul Walton had viewed our lorry in person to assess the existing PTO set-up and offer us the best and most cost-effective conversion solution; a new PTO directly off the engine.
The vehicle was collected a few days later and taken to MIT’s workshop for the PTO upgrade to begin. The 12-day turnaround overran slightly, but that was to allow for some unexpected adjustments. We were happy to wait to receive a perfectly calibrated PTO, and Paul kept us informed at every stage of the process.
The new PTO runs like a dream, direct off the engine and demonstrates the attention, precision and quality of workmanship these talented engineers undertake. We would have no hesitation in recommending the fantastic team at MIT; they were an absolute pleasure to deal with. – Annabelle Fox – Office Manager, Manor Mix Concrete
